Walmart Appoints a New Chief Technology Officer
The retail giant announced that it “has appointed Suresh Kumar to a new elevated Chief Technology Officer and Chief Development Officer role reporting directly to President and CEO Doug McMillon.”
Kumar has over 25 years of experience in the technology space working in various leadership roles with companies including Amazon, Google, and Microsoft.
Hyatt Looks to Expand its Luxury Portfolio in the Asia Pacific Region
The multinational hospitality company announced that it plans to open 21 new luxury hotels and resorts in the region by the end of 2020.
The move looks to boost the company’s luxury portfolio in the region by more than 25%.
According to the company, the new openings will be in major cities including Seoul, Dubai and Auckland.
IBM Signs Two New Major Ocean Carriers to its Blockchain-Enabled Digital Shipping Platform
The technology company announced that global container carriers CMA CGM and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company will join TradeLens, a blockchain shipping solution that’s jointly developed by IBM and Maersk.
The move would enable close to half of the world’s ocean container cargo data to be made available on the TradeLens platform which would provide more transparency, trust, and collaboration around common standards across the supply chain ecosystem.
According to an IBM press release, TradeLens processes “over ten million discrete shipping events and thousands of documents each week” providing stakeholders including freight forwarders, carriers, and customs officials with greater transparency in the movement of goods.
