Volkswagen and Ford Explore The Possibility of a Strategic Alliance

Both companies announced on Tuesday that they’re exploring a joint development of commercial vehicles.

Each company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding that’s designed to strengthen their competitiveness and better serve customers globally.

The companies stated that any strategic alliance would not involve equity arrangements, including cross-ownership stakes.

The companies will provide updates and additional details as talks progress.


Barnes & Noble Education Expands its Relationship with Pearson

Both companies announced on Tuesday of an agreement that will distribute Pearson rental titles at approximately 1,500 Barnes and Noble physical and virtual campus bookstores nationwide.

Working together will help each company in providing students, faculty, and institutions with greater access to cost-effective course materials.

Pearson’s rental titles will be available at Barnes & Noble Education stores this Fall.


Mondelez International Appoints a New CFO

The company announced on Tuesday that Luca Zaramella will become its Chief Financial Officer, effective August 1st, 2018.

Over the past four years at Mondelez, Zaramella assumed a range of responsibilities as the Corporate Controller, Treasurer and global head of Financial Planning & Analysis.

Zaramella will oversee the company’s global Finance, Information and Technology Solutions. He replaces Brian Gladden, who will leave the company in August.


Pizza Hut Plans to No Longer Serve Chicken Raised with Antibiotics by 2022

The commitment comprises of all chicken, including the company’s chicken wings. Yesterday’s announcement comes approximately a year after the brand completed the removal of antibiotics from its chicken for pizza.

The move makes Pizza Hut the first US pizza company to commit to an antibiotic policy for chicken wings.

Pizza Hut currently operates more than 16,000 restaurants in 100 countries.


PayPal Acquires Hyperwallet for $400 Million

The company announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Hyperwallet, a global payout platform.

The all-cash deal will help PayPal enhance its payout capabilities, and enhance its suite of payment solutions to ecommerce platforms and marketplaces around the world.

The acquisition will help PayPal users with localized, multi-currency payment distribution capabilities in more than 200 markets. It will also provide users with numerous disbursement options, including prepaid card, bank account, and debit card.


Goldman Sachs Will Invest $500 Million in Women-Led Companies
News Release

The firm announced a new program called Launch With GS, a $500 million initiative focused on providing capital to women-founded, women-owned or women-led companies. The focus of the initiative will be towards private, and late-stage companies.

According to Stephanie Cohen, the firms Chief Strategy Officer, all-women founded teams received 2 percent of US venture capital in 2017 and 12 percent went to teams with at least one woman founder.

Launch with GS looks to tackle the gender investing gap and bring together investors, entrepreneurs, non-profit organizations and other leaders to nurture and grow new businesses.


Amazon Introduces Alexa for Hospitality

On Tuesday, Amazon announced that it will be rolling out a new initiative called Alexa for Hospitality. It’s a product that offers Amazon Alexa to hotels, vacation rentals, and other hospitality locations.

Guests will be able to make requests such as asking Alexa to order room service, request housekeeping or call the concierge for dinner recommendations.

The program is currently available by invitation only. Marriott International will integrate the new Alexa experience at select properties including Marriott Hotels, Westin Hotels & Resorts, and St. Regis Hotels & Resorts starting this summer.
