Instagram’s Co-Founders Leave the Company
Kevin Systrom and Mike Kreiger announced in a statement their departure from the business.
According to a statement, the founders will be taking time off to explore new creative projects.
Instagram was founded in 2010 and was purchased by Facebook for $1 billion two years later. The company had 13 employees at the time of its acquisition and has since grown to over a thousand employees with offices around the globe.
The news comes months after Whatsapp’s co-founder, Jan Koum, announced that he would be leaving the company. Facebook acquired Whatsapp for $19 billion in 2014.
SiriusXM Acquires Pandora
SiriusXM announced that it’s acquiring Pandora in an all-stock transaction for $3.5 billion.
The deal looks to help SiriusXM expand its presence beyond vehicles into homes and other mobile areas.
According to a press release, Pandora has more than 70 million monthly active users, which represents the largest digital audio audience in the United States. SiriusXM has a base of more than 36 million subscribers across North America.
Snap announced that it’s working with Amazon to test a visual search feature on its platform.
The new feature allows users to “search for products on Amazon right from the Snapchat camera.”
Users will be able to point their Snapchat camera at a physical product or barcode, once recognized, an Amazon card will appear within the app which will show a link for that product or similar ones available on Amazon.
The company announced that this feature will be rolled out slowly. The news comes a couple weeks after Instagram announced that it would expand more social shopping features available on through its app.
