2U Announces that it’s Acquiring Trilogy Education for $750 Million

The education technology company announced that the acquisition of Trilogy Education, “a workforce accelerator that prepares adult learners for high-growth careers in the digital economy”, will expand 2U’s university portfolio from 36 to 68 partners, combine over 250 educational offerings, and serve over 150,000 students.

The $750 million cash and stock deal will consist of “$400 million in cash and $350 million in newly issued shares of 2U common stock.”

The deal is expected to close in the next 60 days.


Viber Launches a Service that Helps its Users Save Money While Abroad

The mobile messaging app announced that it’s launching Viber Local Number, a service that provides its users with the option to use a locally-based virtual landline or mobile number enabling users to make calls at a local rate no matter where they are located around the globe.

The new offering starts at $1.99 per month for the first 10,000 users who sign-up to the subscription service.


Amazon Announces Three Renewable Energy Projects

The technology giant announced that it’s opening “three new wind farms in Ireland, Sweden, and the United States”. The projects look to support AWS, its cloud service, in reaching its long-term goal of powering 100% of its infrastructure around the globe with renewable energy.

The projects are expected to generate wind-energy totalling over “229 megawatts (MW) of power, with expected generation of over 670,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy annually.”
