Amazon Reportedly Considers Rolling Out Approximately 3,000 Cashierless Stores by 2021

Bloomberg reports that the tech giant is planning to launch over 3,000 AmazonGo stores by 2021, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Amazon Go stores use computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning technology to operate cashierless stores that require no checkout.

The first AmazonGo store launched in Seattle in 2016.


Coca-Cola Acquires a Kombucha Drink Company

The company announced that it has acquired Organic & Raw Trading Co., a kombucha drink company.

Organic & Raw Trading Co. operates the MOJO Kombucha brand which is currently sold in over 4,000 locations in Australia.

Kombucha, a naturally fermented organic tea, is a fast-growing beverage category in Australia. The deal looks to help bring the brand to more consumers in the country.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.


Deloitte Forecasts a Boost to Holiday Retail Sales

Deloitte released a 2018 Retail Holiday Sales report which forecasts retail sales to climb between 5 to 5.6%, which is an increase from 4.7% last year. It also expects ecommerce sales to reach between 17 and 22% for the holiday season.

The firm expects total holiday sales to exceed $1.1 trillion between November and January.

Retailers such as Macy’s are also preparing for the boost in expected seasonal sales this year, the company plans to hire 80,000 seasonal employees, while Target looks to bring an additional 120,000 seasonal employees over the holiday season.
