Facebook Expands its Local News Offering
The social media giant announced that it’s making it easier for its users to learn more about local news affecting their communities.
The new feature called “Today In” will initially showcase information and alerts from relevant government and first responder resources.
Today In is available across 400 cities in the United States and has also expanded to Australia.
Instagram Launches a New Feature for Visually Impaired Users
The photo and video social networking platform announced that it’s launching a new feature targeted towards making the social network more accessible to users with visual impairments.
The company stated that it’s launching audio descriptions on photos, as well as, custom alternative text which can be added to posts and accessed via screen readers.
According to the company, more than 285 million people in the world have visual impairments.
Apple Looks to Support Women Entrepreneurs
The multinational technology company announced that it’s launching an initiative that’s designed to support app type businesses led or owned by women.
The technology lab, which is called Entrepreneur Camp, is directed towards app-driven businesses that are female-founded or have at least one woman on the development team.
The pilot program, which is currently accepting applications, will initially start with 10 companies and begins in January 2019.
