Mattel Announces Layoffs

The company announced that it’s laying off over 2,000 positions, which represents 22% of its global non-manufacturing workforce.

Mattel also stated that it is planning to sell its manufacturing sites in Mexico.

Net sales were down 14% in the second quarter which the company states was driven by Toys “R” Us liquidation.


GlaxoSmithKline Teams up with 23andMe

Both companies announced a four-year collaboration deal on research and development of new medicines and potential cures.

The collaboration combines 23andMe’s genetic resources and advanced data science skills, with the scientific and medical knowledge and commercialization expertise of GlaxoSmithKline.

Both companies look to gain insights and discover novel drug targets driving disease progression and develop therapies for serious unmet medical needs based on those discoveries.


Waymo Teams up with Walmart

The company announced that its autonomous vehicles will drive customers to Walmart stores in Phoenix, Arizona.

Customers who order goods on Walmart.com will be driven to and from their nearest Walmart location to collect their purchased items.


ClassPass Lands $85 Million to Expand Globally

ClassPass announced an $85 million series D financing round led by Temasek, an investment company headquartered in Singapore.

The new funds will help the company operate and grow in more than 20 new countries internationally and another 10 cities domestically by the end of 2019 while doubling-down on the density of studio offerings in its existing markets.

The company has raised a total of $255 million.
