Foursquare Raises $150 Million and Acquires Snap’s Location-Based Data Unit
The location technology company announced that the new round of funding was led by the Raine Group. The company stated that the new funds will help it increase its Research and Development and expansion plans.
A portion of the new funds has also been dedicated to its acquisition of Placed, a platform from Snap Inc. that’s a leader in location-driven insights and ad intelligence.
According to a company press release, the acquisition will strengthen Foursquare’s location-aware developer tools, which are relied upon by companies such as Uber, Twitter, and TripAdvisor. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Fitbit Pay Makes its Way to Seven Major Transit Systems Around the Globe
The wearable technology company announced that its Fitbit Pay-enabled trackers and smartwatches will be available for users to pay for and access several transit services around the world.
Public transportation users wishing to make payments via Fitbit Pay can do so at 7 transit systems including the Chicago Transit Authority, Sydney transport for New South Wales train, and TransLink in Vancouver, Canada.
According to a company press release, “Fitbit Pay is now available in 42 countries and supported by more than 300 of the world’s leading banks and credit unions through American Express,1 Mastercard and Visa networks.”
Google Lets Users Discover Popular Restaurant Dishes on its Maps Product
The technology giant announced that Google Maps users will soon be able to discover popular menu items at select restaurants when searching for food via its Google Maps app.
According to the company, the new feature uses machine learning to highlight and match popular dishes with user-generated photos and reviews.
