The Honest Company, Raises $200 Million

The company announced last week that it raised a $200 million strategic minority investment from L Catterton, a consumer-focused private equity firm formed through the partnership of Catterton, LVMH, and Groupe Arnault.

According to a company press release, the new funds will help the company innovate in certain areas of the business, open new distribution channels and boost its supply chain globally.

Honest Company also announced that it inked a retail distribution deal with Douglas, a European based beauty retailer operating more than 2,500 stores.

China’s Ant Financial Raises $14 Billion

The China-based company announced last week that it has entered into definitive agreements with investors for its Series C equity financing totaling approximately $14 billion USD.

According to a company press release, the funds will be used to help accelerate Alipay’s globalization efforts. The new funds will also be used to hire new talent in emerging markets and expand its financial services to new customers.

Accenture Acquires a Design Firm

The company announced last Friday that it has acquired designaffairs, a Germany-based strategic design consultancy firm.

The acquisition will help Accenture design smart products and services. It will also complement the company’s offerings around smart products, smart services, platforms, and new business models for the digital reinvention of industrial companies.

Designaffairs was founded in 1997 with two studios in Germany, one in Shanghai and one in Portland. The company has more than 100 employees and has worked with clients such as Hyundai, Siemens, and Nescafe.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The A&W Fast Food Chain Announces That it Will Eliminate Plastic Straws from All of its Restaurants in North America

The move will make A&W the first quick service restaurant chain in North America to make this commitment.

The company announced in a press release last Friday that guests will be provided with the option of a paper straw. According to the company, the paper straws last 2-3 hours in a drink without breaking down and are naturally biodegrade in 3-6 months in the environment.

The company stated that the switch to paper will keep 82 million plastic straws out of landfills every year.

Seaworld Announces the Removal of Single-Use Plastic from its Theme Parks

Last Friday the company announced that all 12 of its theme parks have removed all single-use plastic drinking straws and single-use plastic shopping bags.

The move brings Seaworld alongside other organizations working to reduce the use of single-use plastics, such as Alaska Airlines, and Hilton.
